Good Memories Vs Bad Memories
Memories are crucial part of our lives. Some memories give us happiness,pleasure and peace of mind those are called good memories and then there are those memories that that depresses us,consumes us,takes away our inner peace from us.These memories are called bad memories.
In my whole life,I have seen world from a unbiased observer’s point of view.
I have experienced both good and bad times like you.
I often thought why the negativity lasts long?
I did research on this.I listened to the many mind Influencers, motivational speakers and few weeks back while listening to a Former Monk named Jay Shetty. The words that he spoke just changed my way of thinking .
He said around sixty thousand(60,000) thoughts come in our mind everyday out of which eighty percent (80%) are negative.
We enjoy good moments for a short while because we think it will come again very soon. We celebrate happy moments for a day,for a week and then we just forget it.
But
When it comes to negative moments, we remember them so much emotively ,more deeply experienced like when you feel that punch in the gut.
These feelings can be:
- Losing someone for good
- Losing a job
- Getting rejected or failure
You know why we deeply experience this?
The reason is these negative moments consume us through all senses.
We remember
what it sounds like
what it feels like
what it smells like
We take happiness for granted.We take happiness loosely. We think we might find another.We think that we will trip over those amazing moments .
But
Negative moments, we hold onto them. We bury them that’s why they stay there for such a long time.Its so easy to bring them back up.
The next time, You want to take a real positive mental picture, the best thing to do, the best thing to really be is to use something thats known as
Five, Four, Three, Two ,One Method
You want to think of right now .You want to look at five things you see.
So, if you are in a beautiful moment, exploring with one of your best friends.
If you are having one of best experiences of your life with a loved one.
The first thing you do is to press, pause stop
and
look around you at Five things you can see,any five(5) around you in this given time.
Then
You should look at four things that you can touch physically, tangibly touch around you.
Four (4) things you can touch in the moment.
then
Its about Three(3) things you can hear in this moment that you want to keep and treasure forever.
Then
One of two (2) things you can smell.What are the two scents in that space, in that moment that will allow you to reconnect at any moment
And
The one (1) is whats the one thing you can taste?
It might be nothing, it could be tasteless but just bringing our senses into the present by
5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
In this way, you will be able to take mental picture of that moment and it will last forever.
Its about time we start appreciating our wins more, its about time that we started immersing ourselves in the positive experiences more deeply
So that we can remember when times are tough.
