Starting My Foster Journey
We often feel ourselves stuck in our busy life.We imagine what if something can take us away from it what if we avail some opportunity that can change our life.I had such thoughts too but I can say I was lucky at that occasion.
Last month,I got to know that there is training program named Foster which has totally different aims than our regular education.I have not seen such modules in my entire life. When I checked out its details,I was flourished with joy because the kind of aim they had were the ones I was hoping to achieve someday and someway in my life.
Inspite of,knowing the academic responsibilities of professional studies,I had to make a hard choice, I had to take an initiative, I needed to see the other side of story which was actually a life changing decision. I was double minded because it takes a serious amount of courage to make such decision.
So, before the last hour of registering online at the final day,I made my mind.I will go for it no matter how harder my life becomes. So I registered myself and I was waiting for the interview to became a part of this enterprise.I went for it and later I came to know I am selected. I was quite happy at that time.Later it turned out to be like a family where you are free to express yourself.Let me tell you how:-
It was saturday, the 9th of November (also known as Iqbal day) but it was a unique day for me. It was quite memorable from the very start till the end.In the start,I was a bit worried because I got up a bit late than usual and now the mission impossible was to reach the training center in time.I had to reach the destination at sharp 9am. So I tried hard and when I entered the class it was exactly 9am. So, I felt like “Mission Accomplished” but it was just the beginning.
When I entered the hall there were boys and girls sitting around the round table and this composed gentleman with the pure professional behaviour welcomed me
Then I introduced myself to other fellows of this family. The exciting thing was most of us were Hayatians (a term used for students of UOG).Two of our fellows were the graduates of UCP.
Then he introduced himself and the other coordinators who were quite superb in their field as well. His name was Hannan Hayat a graduate of GCU Lahore. He explained his graduation experience and I realized the way he got up from the series of number of failures to the current designation was totally the example of “Never Give Up”.The surprising thing about him that he had a unique but quality sense of humour.
Then he explained us those seven Modules and I felt like this is the best exposure to practical life and these were:
4)Key Job Skills
He explained them in detail.I was surprised to know that in the short span of one and half years they are setting up the lives of people of 18 cities on the professional track and their vision was to go even further beyond that .In fact, the milestone of 110 cities in next coming years. My interest was getting at its peak.Guess what he had something in surprise.
Then the Activity number one started which was actually a fumble game which was actually the test of listening skills. He spoke a word and acted differently. We had to act accordingly and i did till the last word .It was a great energizer.I was happy because I did well.
Now, He explained the reason Why he reached this far.I was amazed to know that he kept himself calm this whole time.
The moment he felt we are getting serious he had something for us and that was another activity based on improving the communication skills in term of asking different questions.
He explained the necessity of developing some specific skill sets in this time changing era and the 50 collaborations in the different multinational companies. It further enhanced my interest considering my vision got refined
These were the wonderful people that i got to know that day,my Foster Family and the first day came to an end. While going back I felt like i know them from a long while and my excitement for the next session was on the rise and lucky for me it was on next day.
The next day was even more exciting.
It was because I knew these people share the same school of thought as I do.
It was Sunday the 10th of November 2019
So let me show how I felt that.
The session started and our topic of discussion was Mindset.
Sir Hannan asked our opinions. We gave our opinion and I participated in that as well. Then he arranged our opinions in sequence and gave them a simple yet deep touch and showed us this is mindset.
Fixed Mindset:I cannot do this.
Growth Mindset:I need help to understand this.
The power of mind can be used to build something beautiful but it can destroy as well. Its example is a person with a growth mindset V/s Fixed mindset. Then we discussed the difference between Growth mindset and fixed mindset.I expressed my opinion as well on growth mindset and that was:
1)Accepting your failures
2)Trying to learn lesson from your failures
3)Willingness of taking the risk when no one dares
4)Starting Self-accountability and maintaining Self discipline
while the person with the fixed mindset does these
1)Blaming others for your failures
2)Making up mind that I will always fail
3)Fear of taking risks
4)having no Self-accountability and Self discipline
My fellows sitting around me did pay attention. Then we concluded this:
It was exciting to know the opinion of others and the way they respected and paid attention to my opinion and that was a beautiful feeling indeed.
At that moment I got serious and wanted something different and the exact moment it was time of energizer ,this activity was quite interesting. It was all about developing communication and leadership skills in a funny way.It was arranging ourselves in alphabetical order.
Then it was a mindset checking survey and I was surprised to know that the results were absolutely real.
Then the next thing was even more interesting and it was knowing your personality and we were assigned a task but during the whole time I experienced the demo of teamwork, the sense of understanding the opinion of others and most importantly the respect I got in these two days of a beautiful experience and its just the start
I guess you must must have thinking I should join this too.Are not you?
I bet you want to join this too.Do not miss this golden chance.
I hope you liked my story.I will love to see your feedback.
